Ohio Cardinal recap October 8, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in Ohio Cardinal this week, Mansfield Senior beat Ashland 30-14. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
West Holmes scaled the state rankings by moving to 126 from 154 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Knights were able to move up by topping Orrville 28-23.
Jacob Allton was the best receiver in the league this week as the Arrows fell to Mansfield Senior. Allton tallied 10 receptions for 134 yards. Max Stringer helped Ashland's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 26 yards.
Ashland's Nick Zurcher and Allton led Ohio Cardinal in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Zurcher has thrown for 1,573 yards this season, while Allton has 39 catches for 556 yards. Layne Perone from West Holmes leads the league in rushing with 1,158 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Mansfield Senior takes on second place West Holmes. Last week, Chioke Bradley's team beat Scott Valentine's team, while Kevin Maltarich's team defeated the Red Riders.
Luke Ogi of the the Knights is just 73 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 99 carries Ogi has accumulated 927 yard this year.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Mansfield Senior takes on West Holmes. The Tygers have allowed 79 points this season, while the Knights have given up 125. Mansfield Senior allowed 14 points last week as it topped the Arrows.
The Tygers took down Ashland 30-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
