The Niwot Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Mead Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Niwot is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Legacy just ended the team's six-match winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Lightning by a score of 3-2.
In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Niwot sadly wound up on the wrong side. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-10, 23-25, 25-21, 9-25, 15-12.
Niwot's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Olivia Hamlin, who had 12 digs and two assists, and Sienna Knight, who had ten digs.
Meanwhile, Mead posted their closest win since November 9, 2024 on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Erie, sneaking past 3-2.
Mead was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (108-100), but they still managed to win. The final score came out to 21-25, 25-23, 14-25, 25-23, 15-12.
Mead's win came from a few key players Niwot will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Emmy Tecu, who had 24 digs and four assists. Those four assists gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kamdyn Morris, who had five digs and two aces.
Mead was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in ten consecutive matchups.
Niwot's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 10-3. As for Mead, their record now sits at 8-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's contest: Niwot has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 8.8 aces per game. However, it's not like Mead struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Niwot was able to grind out a solid victory over Mead in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
