The Schurz Bulldogs will head out on the road to take on the Prosser Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Schurz and Foreman have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Saturday. The Bulldogs blew past the Hornets 16-7. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by nine runs or more this season.
Schurz's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mitchell Quiles, who got on base in five of his two plate appearances with one home run, one triple, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Schurz lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Prosser had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They walked away with a 10-6 win over the Titans.
Jayden Perez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Prosser is undefeated when Perez posts two or more runs, but 0-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kajarrie Walker, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Julian Cebrero, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Prosser pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Schurz, they now have a winning record of 3-2-1.
Schurz might still be hurting after the 17-7 loss they got from Prosser when the teams last played back in May of 2019. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
