The Shields Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Georgiana Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Shields didn't have too much trouble with the Tigers on the road as they won 63-49.
Shields' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dante Leffall, who scored 20 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Leffall has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jalance Kimbrough, who scored eight points along with six assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the match if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Georgiana's strategy against the Tigers on Tuesday. Georgiana walked away with a 58-49 win over the Tigers. Given Georgiana's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while the Tigers are ranked 206th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Shields' victory bumped their record up to 11-15. As for Georgiana, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-3 record this season.
Shields suffered a grim 82-61 defeat to the Panthers in their previous matchup last Friday. Can Shields avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
