Houghton Lake unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Central Montcalm Hornets on Thursday, falling 36-16. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bobcats of the 55-26 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

Coming up, Houghton Lake will face off against Evart at 7:00 p.m. on September 5. As for Central Montcalm, they will head out on the road to square off against Newaygo at 7:00 p.m. on September 5.
