Lockport extended their winning streak to three on Saturday, bumping them up to 18-6-1. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Naperville Central Redhawks a 5-0 shutout. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 7, 2022, but that streak is no more.
Not much got past Faut Bridget, who gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Naperville Central off the board. Bridget has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Taylor Lane, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Sophia Hutera, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Lockport hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Naperville Central struck out ten times.
As for Naperville Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-8. The game marked the first time this season in which they were not able to get on the board.
On Naperville Central's side, Cassidy Leonardo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Naperville Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Natalie Lau, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Lockport will challenge Lincoln-Way East at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Naperville Central, they will face off against Metea Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.48 runs per game on average), something the Redhawks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
