Basketball Recap: Mcallen Falls Despite Big Games from Dariana Luna and Miller Richey

McAllen lost against Rowe back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The contest between the McAllen Bulldogs and the Rowe Warriors didn't end well, with the McAllen Bulldogs falling 55-39. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 601st, while the Warriors are ranked 227th).

McAllen's loss came despite strong showings from Miller Richey and Dariana Luna. Richey dropped a double-double on 19 points and 21 boards, while Luna posted 11 points and six rebounds. Richey has been hot, having posted 12 or more boards the last five times she's played.

Even though they lost, McAllen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 17 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

McAllen has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-13 record this season. As for Rowe, their victory bumped their record up to 22-8.

McAllen will challenge Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. McAllen is facing Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest at the right time seeing as Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest is stuck on a 15-game losing streak. As for Rowe, they will square off against Sharyland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Rowe will also cruise into their next contest with the timing on their side: Sharyland will have lost three straight heading into Friday's matchup.
