The West Valley Mustangs lost against the San Jacinto Tigers back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. West Valley was beaten by San Jacinto 48-12. West Valley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-6.
Although West Valley took the loss, they still got scores from David Lawrence and Oswaldo De la cruz.
Jaylen Patterson was a one-man wrecking crew for San Jacinto as he rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and also threw for 165 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 passes. Patterson was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. Another player making a difference was Malachi Brown, who rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
West Valley's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 5-4. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely San Jacinto, Tahquitz, and Liberty. As for San Jacinto, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season.
West Valley will head out on the road to face off against Citrus Hill at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Citrus Hill has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since August 24th. As for San Jacinto, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Perris at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Perris will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 659th, while San Jacinto is ranked 130th).
