After a string of three wins, the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were beaten by Kirtland Central 79-42. Montezuma-Cortez was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-25.
Taylor Whited and Markylla Jones certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Whited scored 16 points, while Jones scored six points along with nine rebounds. The contest was Whited's fourth in a row with at least ten points.
Montezuma-Cortez's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Kirtland Central, their victory was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0.
Montezuma-Cortez will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bayfield at 5:30 p.m. on January 12, 2024. Kirtland Central is on the road again on December 28th and play against La Cueva at 4:00 p.m. on December 28th. La Cueva is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
