For the first time this season, Preston will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Snake River Panthers at 3:30 p.m. Preston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Preston saw some tournament action on Saturday. They put the hurt on Homedale with a sharp 12-2 victory.
Maysa Jones was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Jones was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Averie Madsen was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Rachel Gilbert was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Preston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Snake River was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bear Lake.
Neiley Mangum spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Snake River saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elizabeth Taylor, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. That run marked the first that Taylor scored this season.
Snake River's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Preston, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Snake River's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Preston hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .383. It's a different story for Snake River, though, as they've only averaged .191. Will they be able to contain Preston's hitters?
Preston came out on top in a nail-biter against Snake River in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, sneaking past 7-5. Does Preston have another victory up their sleeve, or will Snake River turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
