Maxwell is 0-8 against Adams Central since April of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Patriots at 2:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Maxwell took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Aurora, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildcats had just enough and edged out the Huskies 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted since April 12, 2024.
Maxwell's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Breckyn Collins, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Collins has hit this season. Jaiven Wescoat was another, going 1-for-2 with two runs.
Adams Central came out on top against Centennial on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Patriots blew past the Broncos 11-1. Considering the Patriots have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kowen Rader made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Rader was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
In other pitching news, Aiden Krejci looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Adams Central let Liam Dyer and Kaleb Wahlmeier run wild. Dyer got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Wahlmeier went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Dyer has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Mousel, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Adams Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive matchups.
Adams Central has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Maxwell, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Maxwell has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Adams Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Maxwell might still be hurting after the 12-1 defeat they got from Adams Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
