The Washington-Wilkes Tigers will face off against the Lincoln County Red Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Friday, Washington-Wilkes strolled past Lake Oconee Academy with points to spare, taking the game 26-10.
Washington-Wilkes got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Dre'Vioun Davis out in front who rushed for 87 yards and two TDs. The team also got some help courtesy of Mayson Mingle, who rushed for 58 yards and one touchdown.
Meanwhile, Lincoln County strolled into their game last Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They were the clear victors by a 45-20 margin over Strom Thurmond. Considering the Red Devils have won four matchups by more than 24 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Washington-Wilkes better keep an eye on Mekhi Wade. He was instrumental in Lincoln County's win, rushing for 77 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries, while also throwing for 53 yards and one TD. That's the most rushing yards Wade has posted since back in November of 2024. Christian Elam was another key rusher, rushing for 67 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lincoln County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 275 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 228 rushing yards in five consecutive games.
Lincoln County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Wade and Jonathan Norman.
Lincoln County's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Washington-Wilkes, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Washington-Wilkes has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 166 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lincoln County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 209 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
