After a string of eight wins, Southwest's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of the McCollum Cowboys by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Dragons have suffered since April 19, 2024.

Alex Rico was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk).

At the plate, Southwest saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julleus Castillo, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Southwest's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 11-3-1. As for McCollum, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southwest will square off against Alamo Heights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for McCollum, they will face off against Jay at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
