It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Cincinnati Country Day Nighthawks ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top against Wayne County by a score of 70-63. The win was all the more spectacular given Cincinnati Country Day's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 232nd in Ohio, while Wayne County is ranked 104th in Tennessee).
Wayne County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Justice Bell, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds. The matchup was Bell's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Cooper Shamer, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Cincinnati Country Day's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Wayne County, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-3.
Cincinnati Country Day's road trip will continue as they head out to face Cincinnati Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Wayne County and Cornerstone Christian will face off at 8:30 a.m. on December 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Cornerstone Christian has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 318 points over their last five contests.
