Baseball Recap: Battle Mountain Takes a Loss

Battle Mountain extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 7-7 in the process. They lost 12-5 to the Glenwood Springs Demons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Demons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-6 on Tuesday.

Jack Reed was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. He has become a key player for Battle Mountain: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was William Townsend, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

As for Glenwood Springs, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games.

On Glenwood Springs' side, Grady Aguirre made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Aguirre a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jackson Irving and Noah Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Irving went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Smith got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs. Evan Neuman was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Battle Mountain will head out to square off against Coal Ridge at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Huskies will need to watch out since the Titans have now posted at least ten runs in their last ten matchups. As for Glenwood Springs, they are taking a road trip to challenge Summit at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Demons surely won't give up without a fight.
