Moravia hasn't had much luck against Union Springs recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Blue Devils will venture away from home to take on the Wolves at 4:30 p.m. Moravia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.3 runs per game this season.
Tioga hit Moravia with a five-run first inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Blue Devils took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers.
Alexis Freier made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Union Springs came tearing into Monday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Olympians get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wolves, who have now won six matchups by 12 runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Abbi Tracy, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Gracie Chalupnicki, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Union Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in three consecutive games.
Moravia's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Union Springs, their record is now 8-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Moravia hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Union Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Moravia came up short against Union Springs when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 3-0. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
