5A Region IV District 31 recap October 8, 2013
McAllen Memorial scaled the state rankings by moving to 778 from 840 this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region IV District 31. The Mustangs were able to move up by topping Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial 68-10.
The Wolverines fell to McAllen Memorial 68-10 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jesus Navarro threw for 127 and 1 touchdown and Nathan Sifuentes had 63 yards receiving. On the ground File Patino contributed 39 yards. Mike Montemayor helped Pharr-San Juan-Alamo's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 45 yards.
Sifuentes was the best wideout in the league this week as the Bears fell to Weslaco East. Sifuentes tallied 4 receptions for 63 yards. Montemayor helped Pharr-San Juan-Alamo's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 45 yards.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo's Navarro and Montemayor have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Navarro has thrown for 654 yards this season, while Montemayor has 15 catches for 154 yards. Bill Littleton's team's Trevor Speights leads the league in rushing yards with 734.
Two of the top teams in 5A Region IV District 31 will go toe-to-toe this week when Steve Marroquin's team takes on McAllen. The Bears' offense has recorded 91 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Bulldogs have permitted only 84 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when McAllen takes on Pharr-San Juan-Alamo. Kevin Brewer's team is in first place, while the Bears are in third place.
The Mustangs led the league in scoring this week after putting up 68 points on Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial.
