The Bishop O'Dowd Dragons will face off against the Coronado Cougars at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday. Bishop O'Dowd is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Bishop O'Dowd is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 21-1 margin over Antioch on Monday. Considering the Dragons have won three games by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Nora Civielli-Sousa was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Civielli-Sousa was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Bishop O'Dowd got a massive performance out of Amiri Green, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. That home run was Green's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Aundrea Evans, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Bishop O'Dowd was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Coronado faced Green Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. Coronado came out on top in a nail-biter against Green Valley, sneaking past 8-6. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Gators recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Bailey Goldberg, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Alohi Mundon was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Coronado's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop O'Dowd, their record is now 7-0.
