The Lutheran Lions will venture away from home to face off against the Notre Dame Prep Saints at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Lutheran is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when Lutheran duked it out with Willow Canyon on Saturday. Lutheran took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of Willow Canyon.
Lutheran saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was James Chumrau, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another was Connor Sanders, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame Prep can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Saturday. They walked away with a 9-6 victory over Boulder Creek.
Jace Terry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Terry was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season.
In other pitching news, Shane Behnke looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two).
Back at the plate, Owen Boeding was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Easton Townes also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Lutheran dropped their record down to 3-2 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Notre Dame Prep, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lutheran has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Notre Dame Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
