Basketball Recap: Dutch Fork Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Win

Dutch Fork had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.6 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Thursday. They breezed past the Irmo Yellow Jackets to the tune of 70-39. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-16.

Dutch Fork got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Michaela Fairwell out in front who went 6-for-13 en route to 18 points along with seven boards and six assists. That's the most assists Fairwell has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Howard, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Fairwell wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Dutch Fork was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Irmo only racked up nine assists.

Irmo's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Abby Livingston, who put up 14 points. That was a full 35.9% of Irmo's points, marking the third time in a row Livingston has had more than a third of the team's points. Ava Carey also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Dutch Fork pushed their record up to 21-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.7 points over those games. As for Irmo, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season.

Dutch Fork does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Irmo, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 53-42 defeat against Lucy Beckham on the 17th.
