The Stern Titans will square off against the Smidt Tech Grey Wolves at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
On Tuesday, Stern made easy work of Simon Tech and carried off a 3-0 win.
The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Stern was: they took every set by at least 12 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-7, 25-10, 25-13.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Smidt Tech and Animo De La Hoya had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Grey Wolves came out on top in a nail-biter against the Boxers on Tuesday, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Grey Wolves have posted against the Boxers since September 27, 2022.
Smidt Tech had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 13-25, 25-17, 25-15, 15-13.
Stern better focus on containing Alejandra Sevillano and Ashley Reyes as the pair were huge in Smidt Tech's win. Sevillano had 12 digs, four blocks, and two aces, while Reyes had 29 digs, seven aces, six kills, and one block. Those 12 digs gave Sevillano a new career-high.
Smidt Tech was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 15 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 15 aces in three consecutive matchups.
Smidt Tech's win bumped their record up to 15-3. As for Stern, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Stern might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Smidt Tech in their previous matchup back in September. Will the Titans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more volleyball content.
