Basketball Recap: Micah Whing Key Part of a Team Effort in Cougars Win

Cornerstone Academy hadn't done well against Redeemer Christian recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Cornerstone Academy Cougars walked away with a 56-48 win over the Redeemer Christian Lions. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the 60-47 victory the Lions walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Cornerstone Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Micah Whing, who went 7 of 14 en route to 14 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Whing a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joa Walters, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 14 points and eight rebounds.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alaric Morgan, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 12 points. Another player making a difference was Graidy Hughes, who posted nine points and seven rebounds.

With the victory, Cornerstone Academy broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-6. As for Redeemer Christian, their defeat was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-10.

Cornerstone Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 36-24 win against Countryside Christian on the 9th. As for Redeemer Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 51-43 loss against HEART HomeSchool on the 7th.
