Basketball Recap: Bishop Witherspoon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Valor Preparatory Academy over North Stanly

Valor Preparatory Academy lost against North Stanly back in November and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Valor Preparatory Academy Owls fell 72-63 to the North Stanly Comets. While losing is never fun, the Owls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 445th, while the Comets are ranked 114th).

Valor Preparatory Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bishop Witherspoon, who went 7 of 16 en route to 22 points. Witherspoon's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Omarion Dawkins, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten steals.

Valor Preparatory Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for North Stanly, their victory bumped their record up to 9-1.

Valor Preparatory Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Piedmont Community Charter at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Valor Preparatory Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.1 points per game this season. As for North Stanly, they and West Stanly will face off at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. North Stanly knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten games -- so hopefully West Stanly likes a good challenge.
