Two dominant players in Javier Martinez and Nick Zarate are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Hidalgo Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Jubilee Brownsville Titans at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hidalgo has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to post nine more assists than your opponent, a fact Hidalgo proved on Tuesday. They strolled past STX with points to spare, taking the game 59-41. The win was just what Hidalgo needed coming off of a 57-33 defeat in their prior game.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hidalgo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Troy Sanchez, who scored 12 points along with five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Edgar Jauregui, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Jubilee Brownsville was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 37-36 to IDEA Edinburg College Prep. Jubilee Brownsville has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Hidalgo's victory bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Jubilee Brownsville, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Hidalgo, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 67-53 loss to Jubilee Brownsville in their previous meeting back in January. Can Hidalgo avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
