HENDERSON, Nev. - After three lead changes,
Liberty (Henderson, Nev.) took the lead for good when
Austin Fitzgerald kicked a field goal with 3:00 remaining in the fourth quarter and held on to upset
Canyon Springs (North Las Vegas, Nev.) 24-21 on Saturday.
After nabbing the lead on a two-point conversion, the Pioneers went into halftime with a 20-13 lead. The Patriots scored the winning points with a field goal by Fitzgerald that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring zero points in the third, Liberty still trailed by seven points going into the fourth quarter. But 12 points in the fourth helped LHS pull out the victory.
A 23-20 Liberty victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The loss comes after Canyon Springs defeated Coronado 12-7 last week. The loss ended Canyon Springs' two-game winning streak.
Liberty (9-3) goes up against Canyon Springs in a playoff game matchup next week, while Canyon Springs (9-2) locks horns with Liberty also in a playoff game.
