After four games on the road, McKenzie is heading back home. The McKenzie Tigers and the Straughn Tigers will face off at 5:00 p.m. on December 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard on Monday.
McKenzie struggled with assists on Wednesday (Hillcrest had 15 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. McKenzie was the victim of a tough 98-72 loss at the hands of Hillcrest. While losing is never fun, McKenzie can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 276th, while Hillcrest is ranked 69th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Jaylen Mcmillian, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 21 rebounds. He scored a full 37.5% of McKenzie's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Quay Jackson, who scored 19 points along with eight assists.
Meanwhile, Straughn was able to grind out a solid victory over Opp on Thursday, taking the game 57-47. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Straughn.
McKenzie now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Straughn, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season.
