The Milan Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their seventh straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 47-34 loss to Princeton. While losing is never fun, Milan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 462nd, while Princeton is ranked 128th).
Milan lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jared Gonzalez, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Ahmet Niasse, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Milan's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-9. As for Princeton, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Milan will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on South Shelby at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. As for Princeton, they will head out on the road to face off against King City at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. King City is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
