The Mansfield Tigers will face off against the South Williamsport Mountaineers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Mansfield was handed a nine-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They skirted past Troy 15-14. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since May 3, 2024.

Andy Hermansen and Liam Shaut did most of the damage at the plate: Hermansen got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one double, while Shaut went 3-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Shaut a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Davis, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Mansfield lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but South Williamsport ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Wellsboro 5-4. The victory was familiar territory for the Mountaineers, who have now won five matchups in a row.
Kamdyn Bubb looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because South Williamsport is 5-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-5 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Tadd Lusk was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of South Williamsport's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Torin Haug was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
South Williamsport pushed their record up to 9-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Mansfield, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mansfield has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .464. However, it's not like South Williamsport struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
