The Massaponax Panthers had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37.3 points), and they went ahead and made it ten on Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 57-42 win over Riverbend. Given Massaponax's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Riverbend is ranked 130th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Takiera Ramey was her usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Massaponax's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyra Price, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Riverbend still got an impressive performance from Hannah Alexander, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Charlotte Mullinax was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Massaponax's victory was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.9 points per game. As for Riverbend, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Massaponax will take on Mountain View at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Massaponax's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matches. As for Riverbend, they will be playing at home against North Stafford at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully North Stafford focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Wednesday.
