Winning is just a little bit easier when you make five more threes than your opponent, a fact the Milford Eagles proved on Saturday. They came out on top against Fairfield by a score of 45-38. Given Milford's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Indians are ranked 225th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Cayden Smith, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey McKenney, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.
Several Indians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Myka Richardson, who scored nine points along with five assists and two steals. Another player making a difference was Kimberlin Samples, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Milford and bumps their season record up to 15-7. As for Fairfield, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-12.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Milford will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on the Spartans at 5:30 p.m. on February 15th. As for Fairfield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Colerain is no doubt hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses.
