The McMichael Phoenix's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 66-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Walkertown. McMichael has not had much luck with Walkertown recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
McMichael lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Cooper Kirkpatrick, who scored 15 points. That's the first time this season that Kirkpatrick scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Jace Dunn, who scored 14 points.
Walkertown's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaden Tyson, who scored 12 points along with four steals. Jaylen Wilkerson was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
McMichael has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. As for Walkertown, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-3.
McMichael won't have much time to rest: their next match is against West Forsyth at 1:30 p.m. on January 13th. The timing is sure in West Forsyth's favor as the team sits on six straight wins at home while McMichael has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Walkertown will take on T.W. Andrews at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. T.W. Andrews will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 398th, while Walkertown is ranked 99th).
