Football Recap: Strong Performance on D from Adrian Lopez and Lawrence Bryant Leads Coral Reef over Varela

If Varela wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Coral Reef, they should've done a better job of containing Izaiah Roque. The Barracudas simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat the Vipers 30-0 thanks in part to Roque, who rushed for 88 yards and one TD. His longest rush was for an incredible 90 yards.

Coral Reef didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Adrian Lopez and Lawrence Bryant. Dylan Perez was another major factor on D, forcing one fumble and making six total tackles (2.0 for loss).

The victory made it two in a row for Coral Reef and bumps their season record up to 5-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 points in those games. As for Varela, their loss dropped their record down to 3-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Coral Reef is set to take on their familiar foe Hialeah-Miami Lakes at 7:00 p.m. on the 9th. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Barracudas 5.2, the Trojans 9.2) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Varela will challenge rival Reagan at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
