The Calvary Day Cavaliers came tearing into Saturday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They snuck past Beach with a 50-45 victory. Given Calvary Day's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 151st, while Beach is ranked 365th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Calvary Day was led to victory by Bre Jones and Destini Gooddine. Jones scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, while Gooddine scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Gooddine is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. Amariah Jones was another key contributor, scoring five points along with ten rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Beach saw an underclassman step up: Mariah Reid scored 28 points along with four steals. That was a full 62.2% of Beach's points, marking the 16th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Calvary Day's victory was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Beach, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calvary Day will take on Groves at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Calvary Day is facing Groves at the right time seeing as Groves is stuck on a 19-game losing streak. As for Beach, they will head out on the road to face off against Liberty County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Beach focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Saturday.
