The Black Hills Wolves will head out to face off against the North Thurston Rams at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Black Hills' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Shelton with a sharp 9-0 win. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by eight runs or more this season.
Ella Goheen was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Goheen was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kailey Miller, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Madi Malone also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Thurston). Everything went their way against Mount Tahoma on Thursday as they made off with a 30-14 victory. The Rams haven't had any issues with the T-Birds recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Like Black Hills, North Thurston also got a great game from a two-way player: Syriahs Trolson. On the mound, she didn't allow a single hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Trolson was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Sara Halterman was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Ellie Hovde was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI.
North Thurston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 26 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
North Thurston's record is now 4-6. As for Black Hills, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Black Hills took their victory against North Thurston when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
