With a playoff win on the line, Christ School rose to the challenge on Friday. They really took it to the Cannon Cougars for the full four quarters, racking up a 75-38 victory. The Greenies have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 matches by 20 points or more this season.
Christ School got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Dacen Petty out in front who went 5-for-8 to rack up 16 points and five steals. Petty is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games he's played. Mason Collins was another key player, going 7-for-10 on his way to 18 points.
Christ School was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cannon only racked up seven assists.
Cannon's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Sean Nix, who posted 14 points and three steals, and Evan Ingram, who scored nine points and three steals. That was a full 36.8% of Cannon's points, marking the fifth time in a row Nix has earned more than a third of the team's points.
The victory was the third in a row for Christ School, bringing their record for this year to 24-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points over those games. As for Cannon, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-12.
Looking ahead, Christ School will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Forsyth Country Day at 6:30 p.m. Christ School knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 26 contests -- so hopefully Forsyth Country Day likes a good challenge.
