Staples-Motley has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Pequot Lakes Patriots at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Staples-Motley came up short against Park Rapids and fell 76-64. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Tuesday (57), Staples-Motley still had to take the loss.
Meanwhile, Pequot Lakes entered their tilt with Pierz with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Pequot Lakes came out on top against Pierz by a score of 61-54 on Thursday. Given Pequot Lakes' advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while Pierz is ranked 265th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Staples-Motley's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-5. As for Pequot Lakes, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.
Staples-Motley came up short against Pequot Lakes when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 44-39. Can Staples-Motley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
