Baseball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is River Valley's Ninth in Last 12 Outings

There's no place like home for River Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They never let the Highland Prep Honey Badgers get on the board and left with a 16-0 win on Wednesday. Considering the Dust Devils have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Aiden Parker made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Parker was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other pitching news, Brian Venegas looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

Back at the plate, Mickey Smith was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Kai Cornell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

River Valley is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Highland Prep, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. River Valley will welcome Tonopah Valley at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Highland Prep, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Odyssey Institute at 3:45 p.m. The Minotaur have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.42 runs per game on average), something the Honey Badgers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
