The Centennial Knights won the last time they faced the Chattahoochee Cougars, and things went their way on Friday too. Centennial came out on top against Chattahoochee by a score of 32-23. The victory was all the more spectacular given Centennial's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 415th, while Chattahoochee is ranked 162nd).
Centennial's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tatiana Oquendo, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds. Jasmine Perez was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Chattahoochee lost, one person who can't be blamed is Esther Mahu. Despite the final result, she scored five points along with 13 rebounds and three steals. Mahu hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games.
Centennial's win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-12. As for Chattahoochee, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Centennial will take on Cambridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Chattahoochee, they will head out on the road to take on North Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
