Oldham County is on a ten-game streak of home wins, while Nelson County is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Colonels will welcome the Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Monday, Oldham County needed a bit of extra time to put away Central Hardin. They walked away with a 13-9 victory over the Bruins.
Jozie Lashley made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Kailyn Claybern looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits.
Back at the plate, Bekah Townsend was incredible, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Wirth, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Oldham County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Nelson County put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Friday. They never let Green County get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. Considering the Cardinals have won 12 matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Aubrey Robbins was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Robbins was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nora Kate Simpson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Alexous Ramey, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Oldham County is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Nelson County, their win bumped their record up to 17-4-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Oldham County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .391. However, it's not like Nelson County struggles in that department as they've averaged .423. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Oldham County's way against Nelson County in their previous matchup back in March of 2022, as Oldham County made off with a 12-2 victory. Will the Colonels repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
