Baseball Recap: Emery Has No Trouble Against Manti

Emery lost to Manti last Tuesday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Spartans blew past the Templars 11-4.

Treven Gilbert made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Easton Stoker, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Tyce Larsen also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Emery was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Emery's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 5-11. As for Manti, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.
