Stuarts Draft got a big performance out of Skyanne Weber, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave Weber a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Karlee Layne, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Stuarts Draft hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive contests.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Rockbridge County and Waynesboro had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 24-6 margin over the Little Giants on Friday.
Sadie Moore made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-6 with one home run, eight RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Eliana Lawrie was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Kayleigh Rosson was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Stuarts Draft's record now sits at 12-3. As for Rockbridge County, their record is now 8-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Stuarts Draft hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Rockbridge County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Stuarts Draft couldn't quite finish off Rockbridge County in their previous meeting back in April and fell 2-0. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
