Bruce extended the longest winning streak in 2A Region 1 this week by beating Okolona, 48-6. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Trojans.
Bruce's dynamic duo of Davis Brown and Shaq Bush proved tough for the Chieftains to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Brown threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns and Bush had 104 yards receiving. Rashad Turner helped Bruce's passing attack out by catching three balls for 48 yards.
Matthew Gates made the biggest impact on defense this week as Baldwyn defeated Walnut. The 5-foot-8 sophomore grabbed one interception.
Bradley Boose was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 124 yards on eight carries as the Bearcats beat Okolona. Duke Upshaw also contributed to the rushing game with 36 yards on the ground.
The Trojans' Brown and Bush have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Brown has thrown for 1869 yards this season, while Bush, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 32 catches for 614 yards. Chakel Gates from Calhoun City leads the league in rushing with 778 yards.
The top two teams in 2A Region 1 will face off this week when first place Bruce takes on second place Calhoun City. Last week, Bruce defeated Calvin Aldridge's team, while the Wildcats bested Hatley.
Going into this week's game against Calhoun City, the Trojans' Brown needs 131 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Perry Liles' team takes on Bruce. The Wildcats have allowed 186 points this season, while the Trojans have given up 94. Calhoun City allowed 0 points last week as it topped the Tigers.
The Wildcats led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Hatley.
