4A Piedmont Triad recap Oct. 23, 2012
East Forsyth extended the longest winning streak in 4A Piedmont Triad this week by beating Northwest Guilford, 28-24. The victory was the 10th in a row for the team.
Parkland moved up to 230 from 261 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Mustangs were able to make move up by besting Ben L. Smith 18-14.
High Point Central's dynamic duo of Justin Johnson and Jawan Foggie proved tough for Southwest Guilford to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Johnson threw for 231 yards and two touchdowns and Foggie had 101 yards receiving. Jameel Mack helped High Point Central's passing attack out by catching three balls for 70 yards.
Lavaughnte' Smith was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 151 yards as East Forsyth defeated the Cowboys. Garrison Duncan also contributed to the rushing game with 109 yards on the ground.
High Point Central's Johnson and Foggie have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A Piedmont Triad in both passing and receiving yards. Johnson has thrown for 1972 yards this season, while Foggie, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 54 catches for 772 yards. Todd Willert's team's Smith leads the league in rushing yards with 935.
The Eagles' Smith needs only 65 yards against Glenn next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
Going into this week's game against Ragsdale, Wayne Jones' team's Johnson needs 28 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Bison take on the Tigers. High Point Central is currently in second, while Ragsdale is in third.
East Forsyth and the Vikings played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with East Forsyth eventually emerging with a 28-24 victory. Smith in the win.
