The Sequoyah Chiefs will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Sweetwater Wildcats at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sequoyah 3.5, Sweetwater 0.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Sequoyah fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Heritage on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mountaineers by a score of 2-1. The loss continues a trend for the Chiefs in their meetings with the Mountaineers: they've now lost three in a row.

Kaliegh Atchley spent all 8.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up 17 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 10 strikeouts per game.
Meanwhile, Sweetwater put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Midway a 12-0 shutout. Give the Wildcats' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.
Sadie Scott made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Baylee Bohrer, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Lillian Woodruff was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Sweetwater kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Sweetwater's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Sequoyah, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Sequoyah has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sweetwater struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Sequoyah's way against Sweetwater when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Sequoyah made off with an 18-9 win. Do the Chiefs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
