Basketball Game Preview: Metro Academy Mavericks vs. Mid-Missouri HomeSchool Mavericks

Metro Academy is a perfect 4-0 against Mid-Missouri HomeSchool since December of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The two teams will face off at 2:00 p.m. without much rest, having both just played. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Metro Academy comes in on four and Mid-Missouri HomeSchool on five.

Metro Academy's tournament run continued when they took on St. Louis Christian HomeSchool K on Friday. Metro Academy enjoyed a cozy 68-49 win over St. Louis Christian HomeSchool K. Given the Mavericks' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 72nd in Kansas, while the Knights are ranked 277th in Missouri), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Mid-Missouri HomeSchool beat Lighthouse Christian 58-54 on Friday. With that victory, the Mavericks brought their scoring average up to 50.1 points per game.

Mid-Missouri HomeSchool had a senior duo take command as Kyle Aulgur went 7-for-17 en route to 20 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals and Kaden Hayes went 6-for-12 on his way to 16 points and seven boards. Aulgur is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 16 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mitchell Pfaff, who posted ten points.

Mid-Missouri HomeSchool's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-9. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.5 points over those games. As for Metro Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 19-11.

Metro Academy strolled past Mid-Missouri HomeSchool in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a score of 61-47. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Aulgur, who earned 21 points and eight rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Metro Academy still be able to contain Aulgur? There's only one way to find out.
