Fairfield and McClain are an even 3-3 against one another since January of 2016, but not for long. The Fairfield Lions will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the McClain Tigers at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Fairfield is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Fairfield's 19-6 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They were the victim of a tough 71-46 loss at the hands of Lynchburg-Clay last Thursday. While losing is never fun, Fairfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 510th, while Lynchburg-Clay is ranked 182nd).
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought game, but McClain had to settle for a 44-42 loss against Hillsboro on Saturday.
Fairfield has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for McClain, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Everything came up roses for Fairfield against McClain in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 57-18 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fairfield since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
