The El Modena Vanguards will venture away from home to face off against the Cypress Centurions at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Thursday, El Modena needed a bit of extra time to put away La Habra. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Highlanders 6-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vanguards.
El Modena got a great performance from Ashley Driskill as she didn't allow a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. Driskill has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sofia Ramos, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Calderon, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.
El Modena hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as La Habra struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Cypress sidestepped La Habra for a 3-1 victory. The Centurions haven't had any issues with the Highlanders recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Chach Stamper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits.
On the hitting side, Tia Hernandez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
El Modena now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Cypress, their record is now 15-9.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. El Modena hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. However, it's not like Cypress struggles in that department as they've averaged .319. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
El Modena came out on top in a nail-biter against Cypress in their previous meeting on April 9th, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vanguards since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
