The Marquette Catholic Blazers waltzed into Saturday's matchup with two straight wins but they left with three. They strolled past Kouts with points to spare, taking the game 49-34. Given Marquette Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 149th, while Kouts is ranked 388th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
JJ Welch was the offensive standout of the game as he scored 21 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Welch has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aleks Pecoski, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Marquette Catholic's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.6 points per game. As for Kouts, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marquette Catholic will challenge Oregon-Davis at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Kouts and Westville will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Westville's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matchups.
