Springfield hadn't beaten Perrysburg on the road since March 27, 2023 but that history sure didn't bother them on Wednesday. The Blue Devils walked away with a 3-1 win over the Yellow Jackets.
While Springfield might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Perrysburg scored at least 21 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 25-23.
Meanwhile, Anthony Wayne unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-match winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Northview by a score of 3-2.
Anthony Wayne was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Northview work for it, especially in the second set. The final score came out to 25-22, 26-24, 21-25, 22-25, 15-10.
Despite the defeat, Anthony Wayne saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jensen Buffy had 18 digs and four assists. Those 18 digs set a new season-high mark for Buffy.
Anthony Wayne's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Springfield, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Springfield has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Anthony Wayne struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 13.8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Springfield got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March against Anthony Wayne by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
