The Carroll Cougars will challenge the North White Vikings at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Carroll is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Carroll didn't have quite enough to beat Rossville and fell 3-2. The match marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Charlotte Kingery spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits.
At the plate, Aleah Savoie made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North White). They were the clear victors by a 22-2 margin over Tri-Township on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Vikings considering their one-run performance the game before.
Raelynn Anliker and Emma Jacobsma made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Anliker struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Meanwhile, Jacobsma pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At bat, Anliker went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Jacobsma went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Jacobsma has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Melanie Crawford, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylyn Applegate, who went 4-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
North White always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
North White's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-9. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Carroll, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Carroll has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like North White struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Carroll took their win against North White in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
